The release of the brand new iPhone SEmodel hasn’t passed unnoticed. People are discussing and talking about it all over the place. No matter where I might go work, home, library, gym, I keep hearing people wondering if the new iPhone will be a blessing or a curse for the company.
Well more specifically we care more about if the new iPhone SE will worth our money than if it’s going to do any good or bad to the big company. To sort that out we have to see it’s features and compare it to the very similar (almost identical) iPhone 5s. Many people got excited about the idea of Apple releasing a new smaller iPhone, however their excitement got cut as soon as they saw the iPhone SE’s design. Everyone was expecting something different, something new, something unique. But we got instead, the same phone which Apple released back in 2013 with just better specifications.
Unfortunately, the number one factor that determines if we like something is the appearance. People always judge electronics, cars and other stuff depending on their appearance. And since everyone was expecting something unique to come out a huge amount of them got disappointed by the “new” release design.
Well I belong to that category of people. Hearing out that Apple was about to release a new 4-inch model I got super excited as I am a small phone lover. But instead of getting something new, something we have never seen before, we got a phone that we all are familiar with.
So what is the main difference between the new iPhone SE and the older 5S? Well the new device comes with a matte finish on the edges as it comes with the option of a new rose gold color as well. Both phone sizes are exactly the same featuring a measurement of 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.3 inches. Moreover the SE is slightly heavier (3.99 vs 3.95 oz)
After seeing the major changes Apple did to the design of the model, a miracle is what we are all hoping for. Moving on to the display we will get disappointed again as no changes have been made at all. The 4-inch model still uses a LCD screen with the resolution of 1136 x 640 pixels and a pixel density of 326 ppi. However the company claimed that the SE’s screen is up to three times brighter than the older iPhone 5s. That could be really helpful in the really sunny days.
Here is where the biggest changes have been made. The new iPhone SE comes equipped with Apple’s latest A9 processor and M9 motion co-processor. Does it feel like you have heard that before? Yup, you are right. This is the exact same processor that iPhone 6s uses. Same amount of processing power in a smaller case. Both processors run at 64-bit structures.
Another great upgrade. The new SE features a 12-megapixel iSight camera which is fully capable of shooting 4K video. It’s also capable of shooting panoramas at the outstanding quality of 63-megapixels. Moving on it’s slow-motion technology has also been upgraded as the new model records up to 240 fps video footage.
The new iPhone SE finally supports hands-free “Hey Siri” prompting. All you have to do is to be connected to the internet and you are ready to go. Unlike the older iPhone 5s which you had to be plugged in (charging) and connected to the internet in order to make it work.
So these are the main differences that were applied to the new model. If you are a first time buyer and you would like to get a small sized iPhone then the SE is obviously a much better choice than the 5s. But what if you already own an iPhone 5s and you want to upgrade to the SE? Is that even worth it?
There’s not a short answer to this question. Since both devices come with the same design we can’t consider appearance as a factor. Many people would say that the upgrade is not worth it since both devices are identical and nobody can blame them. Why would someone spend another four hundred bucks to get something he already has?
That’s how most people think. But there’s that little percentage of people who basically look deeper into the device and make their decision based on the actual hardware. The new iPhone SE is significantly faster and more powerful than the 5s and a lot of people would like to get that extra power into a small phone. That’s probably why someone would choose to buy the SE instead of the 6s. Since they both have the same hardware capabilities the only thing that makes the difference is the size.
Amazon has already started selling the new model at pretty reasonable prices and thousands of people have already made the purchase. You can read more about that here.
The iPhone SE is an incredible device which has amazing processing capabilities. If you are a first time buyer and you are willing to buy something small then I would definitely recommend it to you. However if you already own iPhone 5s and you are satisfied with it’s performance then there’s no need to waste your money on getting something which will make no difference to you. Having to choose between an iPhone SE and an iPhone 6s, only size will play an essential role on your decision.
