Nowadays more and more people are interested in digitized art. There’s a ton of different types of computerized art, however the most well-known are the animation, 3D-Design and graphic design. The number of graphic designers has dramatically increased in the past few years. Colleges have started to provide graphic designing courses which is not a surprise.

What is the best computer for a graphic designer? It’s obvious that a desktop computer is a lot powerful than a laptop in many ways and it can provide better display options, but what if someone needs a laptop which is capable of delivering good performance at a satisfying display? Graphic designers often need to carry their work with them especially from their work environment to their homes in order to finish an undertaking task. Fortunately big manufacturers have already taken care of that and developed some of the best laptops for the task.

Most important things you should be considering:

For the task of graphic design the most critical piece of hardware is the RAM. Aim for a large memory as the higher capacity of RAM your computer has the more complex applications it will be capable of running. In addition the RAM has to be fast enough don’t go for any slower than 1600MHz clock speed.

Your processor is the one which will determine how fast your computer will be able to run. And you need a fast enough computer in order to carry out your tasks easily without any lagging or slow render speeds. It is very important that your computer renders out high quality images as fast as possible in order to save some valuable time.

Graphics Card:

Since you ain’t a gamer you may get away easily with this one. Graphic designers don’t need the best graphics cards, however a relatively good graphics card is required. Moreover the graphics card is the one responsible for displaying the image quality so if you have the chance to go for a 2K or a 4K one, don’t miss out. However the best laptops for graphic design are already equipped with a decent graphics card so you will end up getting a good one anyway.

Asus Zenbook Pro comes with a 15.6-inch IPS Ultra High Definiton screen delivering a crystal clear picture at the resolution of 4K (3840 x 2160). This gives the ability to the user to identify the finest details in order to create stunning high quality content. In addition this laptop features a touchscreen so the user can carry out a lot of tasks much faster with more ease. The touchscreen has 10 points of touch control for smart gesture navigation through webpages, documents and Windows 8.1-related functions. With a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor running at just 3.5Ghz, 16GB of RAM running at 1600MHz and the fastest PCIe x 4 Solid State Drive in its class, your ZenBook starts up in seconds, opens large programs in a snap and brings the capabilities of an entire photo editing studio wherever you go.

#2. Lenovo Z70

Lenovo Z70

Another great choice which will never let you down. Lenovo Z70 is pretty much everything a graphic designer needs for his task. It’s fast, reliable and can run the most complex application without the fear of lagging or crashing. Featuring Intel Core i7-5500U running at 2.4GHz with the ability of overclocking to 3.5GHz it’s just perfect. Moving on this beast has 16gigs of RAM which should be more than enough for the most tasks. You can render images at the finest possible quality at incredible speeds. Some of the major differences between Lenovo Z70 and ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501VW(the one mentioned above) is that the Lenovo Z70 does not feature a touchscreen. However that might not be a big deal for many designers as they tend to use different input methods.

Coming equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce 840M 2GB graphics card is able to deliver an excellent gaming performance as well. This card makes it capable of rendering the finest detail at the highest possible quality. The only thing that could hold some people back from buying this laptop is the fact that it’s 17-inch screen can display resolutions up to 1920 x 1080 pixels or Full HD as many people know it. I mean it’s an incredible laptop, but if it could deliver 4K resolution display, then it would be specs

#3. XOTIC MSI GS60 Ghost Pro

XOTIC MSI GS60 Ghost Pro

And of course MSI is going to be on our list. MSI is the leading brand in gaming laptops industry and it has every right to be. The very well-known MSI didn’t miss it’s chance to built a laptop computer engineered especially for two tasks. Gaming and designing. For the time we only care about the designing part. XOTIC MSI GS60 Ghost Pro comes equipped with an 6th Generation Intel Core i7-6700HQ Skylake processor which can be boosted up to 3.5GHz clock speed. Moving on, this beast features 16gigs of RAM at the surprising speed of 2133MHz which is even upgradeable to 32GB. However it doesn’t come with a touchscreen, but that won’t hold anyone back as it features resolutions up to 4K.

The best thing about this particular laptop is it’s graphics card. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M is capable of running the most modern games at the highest possible settings. Featuring 3gigs of VRAM (GDDR5) should be just ideal for rendering high quality images at the finest detail.

#4. Apple MacBook Pro

And last but not least a laptop that everyone is aware of. Macbook made it easily to our top list thanks to it’s amazing performance when it comes to rendering benchmarks. This particular model features a Intel Quad-Core i7 processor running at 2.8Ghz but it can deliver as fast clock rates as 4.0Ghz when boosted. This is more than enough for editing or designing. This MacBook is equipped with 16gigs of RAM which should be fine as well. The best part though, is the Retina Display. Imagine designing something and not being able to identify the pixels on the screen. Working with 2K resolutions and no pixels. This can deliver surprising results as it makes the whole task easier and much more enjoyable.

As for the graphics bit, the MacBook Pro comes with an integrated Intel Iris Pro Graphics chipset. However your laptop will automatically switch to it’s powerful dedicated 2GB AMD Radeon R9 M370X when needs some acceleration of it’s GPU power. We all know that MacBooks come at a beautiful and attractive design while being super lightweight allowing for it’s easy transportation.

Bottom Line:

All are great choices, but it really depends on everyone’s needs about which one is the best choice. In my opinion there’s not a “best” choice but a most suitable one. Many people have different needs and different liking. In terms of money versus value I believe that the ASUS ZenBook Pro UX501VW takes the lead easily. But if I had to choose a laptop between the options mentioned above I would definitely go for the MacBook. Even though the Lenovo Z70 and XOTIC MSI GS60 Ghost Pro both seem to be greater and probably “better” choices if gaming performance was considered, I wouldn’t want to miss the MacBook’s ultra sharp Retina display.
